Two classes of tissue P systems based on evolution communication rules are introduced, some results are proved, but many more are listed as further research problems. A framework to develop population P systems is de¯ned and a number of variants formulated with a strong biological motiva- tion.

We introduce a new class of P systems, called networks of cells, with rules allowing several cells to simultaneously interact with each other in order to produce some new objects inside some other output cells. We define different types of behavior for networks of cells by considering alternative strategies for the application of the...

This paper investigates a hybrid approach to modeling molecular interactions in biology. P systems, π-calculus, and Petri nets models, and two tools, Daikon, used in software reverse-engineering, and PRISM, a probabilistic model checker, are investigated for their expressiveness and complementary roles in describing and analyzing...

This paper presents a general framework for modelling with membrane systems that is based on a computational paradigm where rules have associated a finite set of attributes and a corresponding function. Attributes and functions are meant to provide those extra features that allow to define different strategies to run a P system. Such a...

We introduce a variant of P systems where rules have associated a real number providing a measure for the "intrinsic reactivity"of the rule and roughly corresponding to the kinetic coefficient which, in bio-chemistry, is usually associated to each molecular reaction. The behaviour of these P systems is then defined according to a strategy...

A framework that describes the evolution of P systems with bounded parallelism is de ned by introducing basic formal features that can be then integrated into a structural operational semantics. This approach investigates a generic strategy of selecting membranes and rules and applying the rules. P systems with boundary rules are used to...
