This study evaluated the micro-morphology as well as the chemical and biological features of Citrus lumia seeds. The cream-colored pyriform seed showed a woody coat covered by a thick layer of mucilage and an embryo with two large cotyledons rich in oil bodies. Hydroxycinnamic acid glycosides and flavonoids are the most abundant compounds in...

Introduction: Seeds may be found in gastrointestinal tissue samples, and their multifaceted appearance may be challenging. The aim is to report a rough incidence of pathology samples which show seeds, specify the most frequent sample types and show an iconography of the most commonly identified seeds. Materials and Methods: Between 2017 and...

Gut inflammation has been correlated with cancerogenesis by disrupting gastrointestinal homeostasis. Numerous chronic inflammatory disorders of the tubular gastrointestinal tract (e.g., gastroesophageal reflux disease, Helicobacter pylori-induced and autoimmune chronic gastritis, celiac disease, and inflammatory bowel diseases) have been...

Paraffin embedding of small, thin tissue samples requires specific expertise for optimal orientation before tissue sectioning. This study evaluates the real-life utility of the agar pre-embedding technique for small skin biopsies with regards to lengthening of work times, problems in orientation (re-embedding) and ancillary techniques...

Several pathological conditions, other than gastro-esophageal reflux disease and its complications, can affect the esophagus. While some of these can present with unspecific lesions (i.e. ulcers and epithelial damage) and require clinico-pathological correlation for diagnosis (i.e. drug-induced esophagitis and corrosive esophagitis) other...

Pancreatoduodenectomy is one of the most challenging surgical specimens for pathologists. Recently, two different, standardized protocols have been proposed: the axial slicing Leeds protocol (LP) and the bi-valving Adsay protocol (AP). Comparison between standardized and non-standardized protocols (NSP) was performed with emphasis on margin...

The p38 inhibitor SB202190 is a necessary component of the medium used for normal colorectal mucosa cultures. Sato et al. suggested that the primary activity of SB202190 may be EGFR signaling stabilization, causing an increased phosphorylation of Erk1-2 sustaining organoid proliferation. However, the growth of some colorectal cancer...
