Relevance of HBV/HBcAb screening in lymphoma patients treated in the Rituximab era

The addition of Rituximab (anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody) to chemotherapy has dramatically increased survival of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) patients. However, in view of the intrinsic immunosuppressive effect of this drug, new questions are emerging in clinical practice. Among these, the assessment and proper interpretation of HBV serological status in patients undergoing Rituximab-based chemotherapy are of special concern.
