Description
The silencer consists of a casing and at least one partition (of sound-absorbing material housed in the casing in such a position as to be brushed by the air or gas flowing through the silencer. The sound-absorbing material consists of inert granular material, such as, for example, expanded clay. This material offers advantages in that it is not harmful to the health and displays high chemical and mechanical stability. The silencer enables sound to be absorbed selectively, that is to say at a given frequency interval, according to the dimensions (thickness S) of the sound-absorbing partition. The thickness of the partitions may be uniform or may vary along the direction of flow of the air or gas in order to achieve the maximum attenuation of the various frequencies in different segments of the silencer.
