La Torre de Hanoi/Sevilla: una prueba para evaluar las funciones ejecutivas, la capacidad para resolver poblemas y los recursos cognitivos

En el presente trabajo se estudia la capacidad de la Torre de Hanoi/Sevilla (TH/S) para evaluar el funcionamiento ejecutivo, analizando el papel que juega la definición del problema, así como el conocimiento incompleto de las reglas de solución de una tarea compleja que requiere estrategias de resolución de problemas. Se seleccionó una muestra compuesta por 120 sujetos que fueron divididos en cuatro grupos de 30 que debían resolver la TH/S con diferente nivel de dificultad (3 ó 4 discos), y con o sin tener restricciones (Administración A ó B) en la información necesaria para solucionar la tarea. El análisis estadístico indica diferencias significativas en las variables Movimientos, Tiempo Total, y Números de Errores Totales, tanto para el nivel utlizado (3 ó 4 discos), como para la restricción de la información (Administración A ó B), y también para el cruce de ambas (Nivel x Administración). Los resultados muestran que la complejidad de la tarea , así como el conocimiento las reglas necesarias para complementarla juegan un papel muy importante en las estrategias de resolución del problema. La TH/S, que requiere de factores como la necesidad de iniciar-mantener una acción (drive), comprensión del problema, planificación, monitorización y uso de feedback (entre otros), es una herramienta efectiva para evaluar el sistema ejecutivo. Algunas de las variables estudiadas son presentadas como índices que ofrecen información sobre la integridad de dicho sistema.

Abstract

This work studies the capacity of the Tower of Hanoi/Sevilla (TH/S) to served as a measure of executive function, analyzing the role played by the definition of the problem and by the incomplete knowledge of the rules in a problem solving behavior task. A sample made up of 120 subjects divided in four groups of 30 each was used, having to solve the TH/S with different difficulty levels (3-4 disks) and with or without restrictions (Administration A/B) in the information necessary to solve the task. The statistical analysis indicates significant differences in the variables Movements, Total Time, and Total Errors, both for the level used (3/4 disks) and the information restrictions (Administration A/B), and also for the cross of both (level x administration). Results shows that the complexity of the task, as well as the knowledge of rules needed to complete it place an important role in solving problem strategies. The TH/S, that involve factors as drive, comprehension of the problem, planning, monitoring, and the use of feedback (among others), is an effective tool for evaluating the executive system. Some of the variables studied are also presented as indexes offering information on the functioning and integrity of said system.
