Description
In this paper we initiate an investigation to determine the best possible position for embedded antennas with respect to their bandwidth. We focus on a device intended to operate on the 900 MHz-band. The embedded antenna and the device is electrically small, and its bandwidth performance is limited by its size. The result of the paper shows that the position of the embedded antenna can have a rather sharp impact on the best possible fractional bandwidth of the device. This type of embedded antenna bandwidth bounds is part of a larger framework of antenna bounds based on the Q-factor. The methodillustrated here can also be extended to include constraints like spatial filtering.
