La antigua arca principal de distribución de agua del Real Alcázar de Sevilla (España). Nuevas aportaciones a su conocimiento y conservación

El principal sistema de abastecimiento de agua del Real Alcázar de Sevilla fue un acueducto construido en 1172. Este artículo documenta el descubrimiento del arca de distribución en el final del acueducto. En el siglo XVII, esta arca constituía un sistema de compuertas que permitía el control y el reparto del agua en el palacio, jardines y huertas. Ante la falta de referencias históricas, partiendo de los antecedentes arqueológicos, del estudio topográfico y de las cotas hidráulicas, se ha descartado la hipótesis tradicional de su ubicación en el interior de la Torre del Agua. Los restos del acueducto han permitido descubrir la construcción y confirmar su localización exacta. Se analiza su funcionamiento y se lanza una hipótesis sobre sus posibles remodelaciones. El estudio gráfico realizado aporta el conocimiento necesario para la conservación de esta infraestructura hidráulica, facilitando su interpretación y puesta en valor.

Abstract

The central supplying water system from Sevilla ́s Real Alcazar was an aqueduct built in 1172. This article shows the discovery of a main water distribution box at the end of the aqueduct. In the XVII century, the box constituted a sluice-gate system that allowed water distribution to the palace, garden and orchards. In the absence of historical references and starting from archaeological precedents, the topographical study and the hydraulic heights, rejects the traditional hypothesis of it being located in Water Tower. The remains of the aqueduct have allowed us to discover and confirm their precise location. Its operation is explained, and a hypothesis is created about its possible renovations. The graphic design made lets us guarantee the long-term conservation of hydraulic infrastructure, facilitating its interpretation while allowing us to give it its deserved value.
