Description
In this work, the performances of different antenna polarization, including linear and circular, in a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) scenario is studied experimentally . The Industrial Scientific and Medical (ISM) 868MHz unlicensed band is targeted with LoRa modulation. The terminals used for test are compact and representative of industry like devices for Internet of Things (IoT) usage. A measurement protocol with 3 devices, each one using a different polarization, was set to study multiple scenario and communication channels. The gateway is using a6dBi dipole antenna with vertical polarization. After analysis we can see that Circular Polarization on end-device offer a better robustness than linear polarization for indoor communication. For outdoor environment, vertical polarization provide the better performance.
