Dynamic simulation techniques for the evaluation of the propulsion system behavior

Description

ABSTRACT: the propulsion plant is a vital component of the ship for both naval and commercial vessels. Despite the importance of the component, design methodologies are not widely covered in public literature. Propulsion plant behavior is a key aspect of the ship overall behavior for safety as well for commercial aspects. The authors present an overview of the methodologies developed in recent years to assess the design of ship propulsion plants and their controls by numerical simulation. The intention is to point out the importance of the dynamic aspects that cannot be neglected when studying ship propulsion matters.
