Job design and redisign

Description

The origins of job design up to the more recent research on this field are presented with particular attention to the Work Design Questionnaire (Morgeson & Humphrey, 2006) which is an updated and exhaustive measure of work design related to relevant work outcomes such as work motivation, job performance, turnover intentions and stress. Although the role of age in job design has largely been ignored, the study of work characteristics in relationship to different age ranges in the organizations will be useful for job redesign. Indeed, certain job characteristics are better associated with different life stages and have an influence on younger and older workers' health and well-being. It will be useful for organizations to understand which aspects of work are associated with different age groups, and in this way workers may find a better fit with their job.
