Computer processing and quantitative text analysis: HYPERBASE, an interactive software for large corpora

Description

The Institut National de la Langue Française is at the head of the largest linguistic database available in the world. This paper is devoted to the description of software that makes possible the decentralised exploitation of the database without the need to use any data-transmission network. This software, called hyperbase, is written in the hypertalk object-language. It implements the methods of hypertext and emphasizes two main orientations, respectively towards documentation and towards statistics.
