Fernando Palatín y Garfias (1852-1927) is the most prominent Sevillian violinist of his time, with an important career as a soloist, composer, conductor and teacher. This paper studies the works of art dedicated to the musician, made by well-known contemporary artists, in the Sevillian area and in France. We analize documentary sources and newspaper articles that show Palatín's popularity, as well as the respect he had earned in the musical environment. Several unpublished paintings and a sculpture are presented. Other works of art that have been previously released, but without delving into their musical iconography and the relationship of various artists and institutions with the Sevi-llian musician, are analyzed in this paper.

Abstract

Fernando Palatín y Garfias (1852-1927) es el violinista sevillano más destacado de su época, con una importante carrera como concertista, compositor, director y docente. En este trabajo se estudian las obras de arte dedicadas al músico, realizadas por conocidos artistas coetáneos, en el ámbito sevillano y en Francia. Se aportan fuentes documentales y hemerográficas que ponen de manifiesto la popularidad de Palatín, así como el respeto ganado en el ambiente musical. Se presentan varias pinturas y una escultura inéditas, y se analizan otras que habían sido dadas a conocer previamente, pero sin profundizar en su iconografía musical y en la relación de diversos artistas e instituciones con el músico sevillano.
