Microscopy and taxonomy: a survey on the leaf surface of Brugmansia sanguinea (Ruiz et Pav.) G.Don (Solanaceae).

A survey carried out with SEM, light, fluorescence and polarizing microscopes on the leaf surface of Brugmansia sanguinea (Ruiz et Pav.) G. Don is reported. Some characteristics are singled out, thus making it possible to tell Brugmansia sanguinea from Various species of section Stramonium and section Dutra of the genus Datura. Presence of extracellular Ca oxalate crystals is emphasized as a good diagnostic characteristic for this species.
