The Role of Energy Communities in the Energy Framework
Description
Energy Communities can help to satisfy our energy needs in a more sustainable and efficient manner. Since 2019, the European Union is strongly promoting their development; amoung the European countries, Spain and Italy are taking a leading role in this paradigm change. However, additional regulatory and technical steps must be carried out to move in this direction. In this chapter, we firstly present a synthesis of the Energy Community definition, reporting possible approaches and characteristics summarizing its regulatory framework in Europe and focusing on its application in Spain and Italy. Secondly, we introduce the fundamentals of microgrids and nanogrids, which are often the technical implementation of Energy Communities.
