Description
In the last years, international studies are problematizing maps: the production of "perception maps" or "cognitive maps" are arising as new methods of research, dissemination and communication. The problem of analyze and visualize textual information using cartography is rapidly becoming a crucial issue in international studies; as consequence, GIS software application is addressing new fields, as the assessment and representation of textual data or the study of human behavior to the spaces. The paper deals with the application and the discussion of this approach potentialities, using as case study the spatial analysis of hydrogeological risk perception in Genoa Municipality territory and in the Bisagno Valley. The developed method (PRi:SMA - Perception of Risk: Strategies for Mapping and Analysis) involves the analysis of data from different sources. Among them, the assessment of a dataset of 300.000 post published on of social media is presented. Using methods of Qualitative GIS as the QGIs plugin "Cartogram", the results of the dataset analysis is used to develop anamorphic maps to reproduce local people's risk perception.
