Using the knowledge gained from the wave chaos theory, we present a simple modification of the shape of a reverberation chamber (RC) consisting in inserting a metallic hemisphere on a cavity wall. The presented simulation results show a significant improvement of the field statistical properties, and this without resorting to a mode stirrer.

April 2017 (v1)Journal articleEnergy localization effects within a reverberation chamber and their reduction in chaotic geometries
A method of studying energy localization effects in a reverberation chamber is proposed and applied to simulation results. Its application to field spatial distributions of a classical reverberation chamber equipped with a mode stirrer shows a strong energy localization phenomenon of damaging effect on the field homogeneity. From the energy...

In this article, we present a numerical investigation of three-dimensional electromagnetic Sinai-like cavities. We computed around 600 eigenmodes for two different geometries: a parallelepipedic cavity with one half- sphere on one wall and a parallelepipedic cavity with one half-sphere and two spherical caps on three adjacent walls. We show...

Using the knowledge gained from the wave chaos theory, we present simple shapes of resonant cavities obtained by inserting metallic hemispheres or caps on the walls of a parallelepiped-shaped cavity. The presented simulation results show a significant improvement of the field statistical properties when the number of hemispheres or caps...

Any measurement opens a wave system. This coupling to the continuum drastically changes the system properties by converting discrete modes into decaying resonance states and induces currents that did not exist in the closed system. One possible description is the effective Hamiltonian formalism. As a consequence, typical quantities investigated...

An alternative approach to the International Standard criteria used to assess the well-operating of a reverberation chamber (RC) is proposed. The considered indicators, inspired from studies on chaotic cavities, rely on the properties of the cavity resonant frequencies. The new proposed approach aims to reduce the measurement duration and...

The use of stochastic approaches for the electromagnetic characterization of complex systems is illustrated in two cases that are reverberation chambers and urban environment. Several stochastic approaches are adopted in both cases, from a perturbative approach to the determination of distributions; the indications they provide as well as the...
